The district we proudly serve
The Union Fire Protection District serves a diverse community that includes both urban and rural areas, with a total population nearing 20,000 residents. Three fire stations are strategically located within the city limits of Union, Missouri, which itself has a population of approximately 11,700 and serves as the county seat of Franklin County.
Our district spans 96.33 square miles and is composed of approximately 40% agricultural land, 45% residential areas, and 15% industrial development. Located just 45 minutes west of St. Louis, Missouri, the district reflects a dynamic mix of land uses and community needs.
Key facilities within our district include the Franklin County Adult Detention Center, which houses city, county, state, and federal inmates. We also serve three nursing homes, two assisted living facilities, and several multi-story commercial, educational, and industrial buildings—including East Central College, a large, multi-story educational complex.
The district contains several critical infrastructure elements, including:
– Interstate I-44 along the southern boundary
– A major sanitation treatment facility and central rail line
– Multiple Ameren UE substations
– Four major petroleum pipelines: Explorer, ConocoPhillips, Missouri Pipeline, and Enbridge
– Orica USA Inc., a major distributor of high explosives, which operates a large magazine storage facility within our jurisdiction
The Union Fire Protection District is prepared to respond to a wide range of incidents across this varied landscape, ensuring the safety and well-being of all who live and work within our boundaries.
